The TEENS-LAUNCH Africa recently held a program at Lagos City Model in partnership with Internet Society SIG, featuring 50 participants from two schools, accompanied by two teachers. The participating schools were Wesley Junior Girls College and Lagos City Model. This initiative aimed to cultivate interest in STEM disciplines while providing participants with foundational knowledge and practical experience essential for future academic and professional endeavors.
During the 2-Day workshop, participants were introduced to Robotics, Automation, Visual Programming using Scratch while fostering teamwork and collaborative problem-solving through group projects.

DAY 1
The participants were introduced to scratch software- a visual Programming tool designed to simplify coding for beginners. Facilitators provided step-by-step instructions on creating simple games, enabling students to grasp programming logic and enhance their creative thinking.
To ensure an effective and inclusive teaching approach, a baseline survey was conducted to assess students’ prior knowledge of programming. The findings revealed that while a few participants possessed some programming experience, the majority had limited to no prior exposure. This assessment guided the facilitators in delivering a tailored and impactful learning experience.
Students actively engaged in hands-on activities and individual projects, resulting in an improved understanding of programming fundamentals and creative problem-solving skills.






DAY 2
The second day of the workshop introduced participants to Arduino and the basics of robotics. Building upon the programming knowledge acquired on Day 1, students worked in groups to encourage collaboration and teamwork. Each group was tasked with constructing and programming a line-following robotic car, integrating both theoretical and practical aspects of STEM education.
This interactive session provided students with an opportunity to apply their learning in a tangible and innovative manner, fostering a deeper understanding of automation, robotics, and programming.






At the end of the session, an endline survey was conducted to evaluate the participants’ comprehension and gather feedback on their favourite aspects of the program.
The survey results indicated that most students particularly enjoyed the practical activity of building robotic cars, reflecting their enthusiasm and appreciation for hands-on learning experiences.
The 2-Day STEM Workshop successfully achieved its objectives, inspiring participants and demonstrating the relevance of STEM education in addressing real-world challenges. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on activities, the program fostered a deeper interest in STEM fields and equipped students with essential skills in programming and robotics.






This initiative underscores the importance of empowering young minds through STEM education and highlights the potential of such programs to prepare students for future academic and professional opportunities. The successful implementation of this workshop serves as a model.
