Teens-Launch Africa, teens launch Africa has partnered with Emerging Communities Africa to launch Project #Digi4Rural, a 3-month digital literacy initiative for rural villages in Nigeria. The first phase of the project will serve students in Ibule-Soro and Awo-Kajola area of Akure, Ondo State.
Many rural schools in Nigeria lack quality STEM and IT education, despite its growing importance. Digi4Rural aims to address this digital divide by providing critical technology training and hands-on learning opportunities.
The program will adopt schools in this areas and visits this schools weekly to teach, mentor and expose these lads, enabling students to gain digital skills through a curriculum on topics like computer basics, internet safety, and coding. Local teachers will be trained by Teens-Launch Africa to deliver engaging lessons over the 1-month period.
Digi4Rural also facilitate immersive workshops like hackathons and coding camps to generate enthusiasm for technology among youth and parents during its activation in each village.
“We want to empower rural students to become innovators through technology before expanding the model to new communities,” said , Sobowale olumuyiwa TLA Founder.
After the initial 3-month cycle, the partners will transition the training, and activities to two new villages in need. The goal is to make Digi4Rural a sustainable program spreading digital literacy across Nigeria long-term.
“Equipping youth with 21st century digital skills is key to enabling their participation in our digital economy,” said George Ayomipo, ECA Programs Manager.
By collaborating to bring accessible tech education to underserved rural areas, even for short 3-month periods, Teens-Launch Africa and Emerging Communities Africa aim to create a more digitally inclusive future for Nigerian youth.
